Jonathan Kuminga, once heralded as the Golden State Warriors’ rising star, now finds himself at the center of heartbreak and speculation. As Golden State eyes another playoff run, fans are left reeling from the latest update on the 22-year-old forward’s future.
And with emotions running high, the reactions are pouring in — honest, and full of frustration.
Fans Voice Frustration as Jonathan Kuminga’s Future Hangs in the Balance
According to The San Francisco Standard’s Tim Kawakami, Kuminga’s days with the Warriors may be numbered. Speaking on the “Willard & Dibs” show, Kawakami revealed: “The likely situation is [Jonathan Kuminga]’s not going to be on the Warriors next season.
“I don’t know that he’s going to be galloping to sign a new deal with the Warriors, given all this. Things can change, but all things being equal, it was probably going to be a tricky situation for him to come back to the Warriors anyway,” Kawakami said.
The quote hit Warriors fans like a punch to the gut. One fan simply captured the collective heartbreak: “This breaks my heart.”

Others showed support for Kuminga’s potential departure, seeing it as a fresh start rather than an end. One fan tweeted, “As well he shouldn’t… go somewhere where you can learn and grow and not get punished for getting hurt,” expressing frustration over how injuries have impacted Kuminga’s role.
The sentiment was echoed with a hint of sarcasm: “Giving up on a 22 yr old. What a great idea.” That bitterness reflects how many fans feel the franchise mishandled one of their most promising young talents.

Another fan offered a practical solution, suggesting: “Sign n trade would be ideal.” That option may become a real possibility if things don’t change soon.
And then there was a subtle jab disguised as advice. “He needs to study and model his game after Jimmy Butler. ‘I like to shoot layups!’” The Butler comparison stings, especially since Kuminga’s minutes have dipped drastically with Butler taking center stage.

Kuminga Falling Out of Favor at the Worst Time
Kuminga didn’t play a single minute in the Warriors’ 124-119 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, April 13, a DNP that raised eyebrows, especially in such a tight contest. While he’s averaged a respectable 11.6 points and 4.1 rebounds over his last 10 games, his role has been shrinking ever since Jimmy Butler III arrived.
Before the injury that sidelined him in January, Kuminga was putting up 16.8 points, five rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. But now, with Butler commanding 40+ minutes a night, head coach Steve Kerr’s priorities seem clear.
As Kerr put it, “The [Butler-Kuminga] combination has not been great … and I’m playing Jimmy 40 minutes a night because Jimmy is … one of the very best players in the league.”
That might make basketball sense, but it doesn’t make the situation any easier for fans who’ve been rooting for Kuminga’s rise. The Warriors now gear up to face the Houston Rockets on Sunday, April 20. But even in the heat of the playoffs, the Kuminga cloud looms large.
