Beyoncé and Cardi B’s eye-watering Coachella fees exposed as festival returns
The legendary Coachella Festival has made its much anticipated return – but ever wonder what the paycheck looks like for those famous acts gracing the stage?
The festivities commenced on April 11 and will culminate on April 20, transforming the Californian desert into an oasis of music mania that’s eagerly awaited by thousands of fans each year.
Throughout its 26-year tenure, Coachella has been the backdrop for many of the industry’s titans keen to provide electrifying shows, and this season’s line-up is sure to excite with Lady Gaga, Green Day, and Post Malone topping the bill.
Joining the roster are popular figures including Charli xcx, Benson Boone, Ed Sheeran, Lisa, Megan Thee Stallion, Missy Elliott, Tyla, among others, while festivalgoers bask under potentially record-breaking temperatures.
On TikTok channel Curiously Media, the whopping amounts paid to some of the biggest acts to take to the festival stage were detailed in a recent post.
Narrating the clip via voiceover, the page began: “Here’s the insane amount that your fave artists have been paid to headline Coachella over the years..”
Beyoncé
One of the world’s most renowned megastars, Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella headlining act was nothing short of historic, even spawning a successful concert film.
Celebrated as ‘Beychella’, the performance etched itself into the annals as not only an ode to Black excellence – featuring HBCU marching bands and a Destiny’s Child reunion – but also as a historic occasion as Beyoncé claimed her throne as the first Black woman to headline the famed festival. Her performance was further elevated by guest spots from Jay-Z and her sister, Solange Knowles.
The show captured the spotlight, with Beyoncé’s Coachella gig becoming YouTube’s most-streamed concert ever. It was immortalised in the exclusive documentary, Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé.
Regarding her payment for the iconic performance, Curiously noted: “Beyoncé was reported to have earned between $8 and $12 million dollars for her Coachella shows across both weekends when she headlined in 2018, according to Billboard.”
In the comments, fans had plenty to say. Someone claimed: “Beyoncé made 8m from Coachella and 60 million from her movie…”
Another commented: “Beyoncé was paid less because she wanted to own the rights to her performance, she got paid around 4m total”, and someone shared: “Beyoncé deserved every penny of that! ! What a show that was [mind-blowing emojis]”.

Acclaimed rapper Cardi B made her Coachella debut in 2018.
Hot on the heels of her hit album, Invasion of Privacy, Cardi thrilled festival-goers by inviting several collaborators from her album to share the stage.
For Best Life, Chance the Rapper graced the audience with a guest spot, and G-Eazy dropped by for No Limit, among others.
Now 32-years-old, Cardi has opened up about how her Coachella performance actually set her back financially, due to the investment she poured into her ambitious set design and production costs.
Curiously disclosed: “Cardi B – who also played in 2018 but didn’t headline – revealed that she had made about $70,000 for each weekend that she performed but she actually lost money because she spent nearly $300,000 to build her set.”
A comment from a surprised fan read: “They really got Cardi cheap”.
Tyler, The Creator
Rapper and singer-songwriter Tyler, The Creator took Coachella 2024 by storm, headlining both weekends on Saturday nights.
His performance was lauded, where he delivered popular tracks from albums like Igor and Call Me If You Get Lost, alongside classics from Goblin and others, according to Pitchfork.
The event featured an electrifying showing from Tyler, complete with star-studded appearances by A$AP Rocky and Childish Gambino.
Curiously mentioned further details about Tyler’s compensation: “Tyler, The Creator has sung about his 2024 Coachella pay, saying it was eight figures which means at least $10 million dollars and back in 2017, the New Yorker claimed that headlining acts Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar and Radiohead received between $3 million dollars and $4 million dollars.”
