WNBA star Angel Reese is making the most of her money after sharing that she has become a homeowner.
The Chicago Sky forward, 22, enjoyed her debut season in the pro ranks last year, being named to the All-Star team and becoming one of the league’s most popular players. Despite her success on the court, Reese has also been scrutinized for how she funds her lifestyle away from the sport.
Reese was widely reported to have earned $73,439 as a WNBA rookie in 2024. However, through her lucrative brand deals and other ventures, Reese has paid off her mom’s mortgage and bought her first home since the turn of the year.
On Tuesday, Reese took to X to share the news, marking her achievements with green tick emojis: “I retired my momma. I became a homeowner. All at 22. I’m so blessed.”
The recent Vogue cover star later responded to fan’s post about her success. “They said ‘she need to cover up’ so I went cover on Vogue,” Reese said. “They said ‘she can’t afford her rent’ so I went and bought a house. Thank yaaaa.”
Among those to congratulate the WNBA All-Star on purchasing her first home was her mom Angel Webb Reese. Responding to a picture of her daughter posing with an oversized key to celebrate the landmark day, she wrote: “Congratulations Baby Girl!!!”
In the corner of the picture shared by her mom was a caption from Reese that read: “Knocked off 2 BIG things off my vision board in the first 4 months of the new year!” As she revealed on her Unapologetically Angel podcast, Reese achieved the goal of paying off her mom’s mortgage in January.
“Well it’s your birthday today,” Reese said as she presented her mom with a cake. “Before we sing happy birthday, you said that if your mortgage was paid off that you would retire or you won’t work.
“You can pick if you want to work still, your mortgage today has been paid. You ain’t got to worry about your mortgage no more and if you want to still work and keep yourself, you can keep yourself busy.
“That was my biggest goal in life to retire you and pay your mortgage or whatever you wanted not to work.”

The 22-year-old recently picked up a $50K bonus for winning the inaugural Unrivaled championship at Rose BC, which is more than half her regular WNBA salary. Reese also boasts brand deals with Reebok, Beats by Dre, Reese’s Pieces and others but has previously joked about spending beyond her means.
“I just hope you know the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all,” Reese admitted during a live stream last year. “I don’t even think that pays one of my bills. Literally, I’m trying to think of my rent for where I stay at (in Chicago). I’m gonna do the math real quick.”
After calculating the total for her $8K-per-month rent, she added: “I’m living beyond my means! “I wouldn’t even be able to get a sandwich if I wanted to. I wouldn’t be able to eat. I wouldn’t be able to live.”
Although Reese’s exact salary for her time in Unrivaled is unknown, the new league promised minimum six-figure sums for players during the WNBA offseason. She has been vocal about increasing WNBA salaries several times and made a point about her recent $50k bonus on social media.
Responding to a fan asking for money, Reese wrote: “I’m sorry to break it to you but i’m on a rookie contract & that 50k was a little more than half of my contract so I have to keep that to myself…. Sorry. Give me a few years and i gotchu. be well.”
