For many, Addison Rae has been the internet’s It Girl since she blew up on the social media platform TikTok in 2019 for her dance skills. Now, she’s taking her talents to the music industry.
This isn’t Rae’s first rodeo when it comes to music. She’s released music before, and has even worked with other artists such as Brat Queen Charli XCX- who addressed plastic surgery rumors-on two songs, Von dutch and 2 die 4.
Diet Pepsi-a drink that could be a ‘major’ health risk-, was the artist’s most recent hit with over 125 million plays on Spotify. Last night, she just released a new song, titled Aquamarine.
Rae, who might just be the next Sabrina Carpenter, took to Instagram to celebrate the single’s release. She also released the music video for the song last night, and shared some photos from the set.
The song is predicted to gain inspiration from the 2006 movie Aquamarine, where a storm causes a mermaid to wash ashore leaving her to try and find true love to stay on land.
The song opens with the lyrics, “Aquamarine, honey dive into me…The world is my oyster” and features other lyrics such as “Swimming in the sea with the salt in my hair…heart of the ocean around my neck”.
In the music video, Rae is swimming in the bathtub in a bright purple shiny mesh dress, resembling a mermaid tail. In another shot, she is seen in a seashell and pearl necklace.
Rae also shared another series of photos to Instagram, where she is wearing chunky pearls around her neck and a seashell bikini top. The caption reads “SUMMER FOREVER” with an anchor emoji.
After releasing her first single, Obsessed, she took a hiatus from releasing any new music. Two years later, in 2023, Addison released her first EP titled AR, her initials.
