LIV Golf star Paul Casey’s 24-year partnership with coach Peter Kostis has come to an end after the latter confirmed the pair’s surprising split.
The 47-year-old had long been a student of Kostis but their partnership that lasted over two decades has officially come to an end.
The golf coach announced this past Friday (October 25) that the pair had parted ways in a succinct statement that suggests no bad blood exists between them.
“Every teacher/student relationship has a half-life,” he wrote on social media platform X. “Reluctantly, after 24 years I feel it’s best for me to step away from my work with Paul Casey.
“My reasons are both personal and private and will remain as such. Helping him become an elite ball-striker and world-class player from the days he left ASU all the way to today was a very rewarding journey and I wish him well going forward.”
Casey – who joined LIV Golf in 2022, has earned over $18million (£13.4m) in prize money since joining the Saudi-backed league and enjoyed a stellar career on both the European Tour and PGA Tour prior to his defection, winning 15 titles on the former and three on the latter.
The English golfer turned professional in 2000 and was also a regular participant in the Ryder Cup. He represented Team Europe on five occasions, where he holds a record of 4-7-5 in the biennial contest.

The split between Casey and Kostis was recognised by Phil Mickelson who took to social media to pay tribute to the pair’s long-standing partnership. The five-time major winner wrote: “What a long and successful partnership you have had together,” in response to the renowned coach’s post. “Congratulations to you both.”
Casey was among the PGA Tour exodus when signing for LIV two years ago which he attributed to the “physical burnout” he had been suffering. “Suffering injuries and basically being fairly unhappy with the state of the game of golf,” he previously stated.
“I went for something new, plain and simple. For my own sake, for my family’s sake and that was a long answer to a short question, but I am actually pretty damn happy playing on LIV right now, I must admit.”
